Join us for an evening of practical, case-based CE covering the full arc of surgical co-management
Partnering in Preserving Sight: From Diagnosis to Recovery
A 2-Hour Pending COPE Accreditation CE Event for Optometrists (2 CE Credits).
Optometrists sit at the center of the surgical care journey — from catching early disease before it progresses, to guiding patients safely through surgery and recovery. This evening brings together Empire Eye Physicians’ surgical and optometric teams for a practical, case-driven look at co-management across the anterior segment.
Keratoconus: Diagnosis, Monitoring, Treatment, and Co-Management
Presented by Jason Croskrey, MD and Casey Claypool, OD
Early detection changes outcomes. This course walks through the clinical signs and risk factors that should raise suspicion for keratoconus, how tomography and emerging biomechanical tools like corneal hysteresis and epithelial thickness mapping are reshaping diagnosis, and evidence-based criteria for monitoring progression. You’ll leave with a clear framework for when to refer for cross-linking or surgical evaluation, how to counsel and fit patients in scleral and specialty lenses, and what to watch for when a keratoconus patient also needs cataract surgery.
Pre- and Post-Operative Care in Cataract & Refractive Surgery
Presented by Ashlin Zarate, OD and Jessica Couch, OD
Once surgery is on the table, co-management responsibilities multiply. This course covers lens selection counseling (toric, multifocal, EDOF, light-adjustable, monovision), ocular surface optimization before biometry, and how to recognize a normal recovery versus one that needs a call back to the surgical team. It also reviews candidacy and post-op care for LASIK, PRK, SMILE, RLE, and ICL — with real case discussions to tie it all together.
There is a registration fee of $60 which includes dinner catered by Red Robin. All proceeds from the event will be donated to local non-profit, Lilac Services for the Blind.
Seating is limited to 40 attendees, please register in advance to secure your spot.
